Banky W threatens to sue Nigeriafilms.com over article

From Banky’s blog
I will now proceed to sue this website, the writer, and everyone involved with propagating such nonsense until they delete this poor excuse for an article and post a full apology, or until a court of Law closes this business down.
I think Banky should have ignored them. Thousands of people didn’t see it until he brought our attention to it. How can you sue someone when you don’t even know who they are? NF I think operates from outside the country. Also can a law court close down a blog in Nigeria? I doubt it…probably not worth your time and money darling.. but do what you gotta do.

IG withdrawals police escorts from individuals, firms

IG withdrawals police escorts from individuals, firms
The Acting Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, on Monday, in Abuja ordered the withdrawal of all police officers posted as guards to companies and individuals across the country.

He also ordered that all intra-state and highway checkpoints be dismantled and brought under the original structures recognised by police standards saying such constituted nuisance especially on the Lagos express road, Edo and South-Eastern states.
Abubakar said the directive was aimed at restoring professionalism, efficiency and integrity in the performance of police duties. He said the withdrawal would ensure service delivery to the people adding that over 100, 000 police officers attached to individuals and corporate organisations as guards.
Abubakar’s predecessors had issued the same directives on assuming office, but was never executed as police officers remained on guard for firms as well as politicians.
By law, only the President, Vice-President, state governors, local government chairmen, magistrates and judges were entitled to police guards, but the privilege was however abused by senior police officers in charge of police commands and formations who assign junior officers to individual.
While addressing Assistant Commissioners of Police in charge of operations and Criminal Investigation Departments of all zonal and state commands in Abuja, Abubakar emphasised the need to restore professionalism and integrity to all police duties.
He ordered the immediate release of all unlawfully detained persons in police cells and reiterated his directive that no person should be detained beyond 24 hours, except permitted by law.
“All squads, teams or any other investigating outfit operating under whatever name are hereby dismantled with immediate effect and they are to be under the original structures recognised by police standards,” Abubakar said.
“All intra-state and highway road blocks which constitute nuisance especially on the roads of Lagos, Edo and South-Eastern states should also be dismantled immediately”.

“We have read and assimilated the effusions of a deluded mind by name Sheikh Sani Haliru, who for want of very cheap relevance decided to mention the highly respected name of IBB as one of the “sponsors” of what he called Boko Haram. From our first reading, we felt it would amount to giving undue relevance to a confused mind if we volunteer a response, but for our teeming supporters, associates and friends of IBB, for the price we owe history, we decided to offer this disclaimer.”~ IBB’s spokesman, Mr Kassim Afegbua.

Valentine: Man burnt to death over stolen gifts for lover

A robber, who strongly believed he must show love to his lover on Valentine’s Day by any means possible, has been burnt to death by an irate mob in Warri, Delta State.
The Valentine lover was lynched and burnt to death by the mob after his failed attempt to steal gift items he intended to present to his lover from a boutique in Udu area of Delta State.
The deceased was reported to have stolen some clothes from a roadside boutique along Orhurunwho Road near Warri, but was not lucky as the shop owner raised an alarm when he attempted to escape.
It was gathered that the deceased had gone to the boutique pretending to be shopping for his girlfriend for the Valentine’s Day when he suddenly brought out a gun to intimidate both the shop owner and her sales girl.
He was, however, given a hot chase as he stepped out of the shop after picking the few items in a bag and the shop owner (a lady), raised an alarm, which attracted her neighbours.
The robber lover, however, remained unrelenting as he shot into the air when it became obvious that those chasing him were catching up with him. The gunshot that was meant to create panic did not yield its desired result as those chasing after him intensified the hot chase.
He was later caught with a rubber bag containing female clothes and about five pairs of jean material, which he said he stole as valentine gifts for his girlfriend since he could not afford to buy.
The irate mob that chased the deceased lynched and burnt him alive, close to the popular Esco Superstore, along the ever-busy road.
The incident, which happened about 6:30 p.m. yesterday, caused heavy traffic gridlock along the road where hundreds of residents thronged to catch a glimpse of the deceased.
But in a swift reaction, the state police chief, Mamman Tsafe, said there was no need for people to take laws into their hands especially now that the police were on top of security situation in the metropolis.

“We are here to commiserate with government and people of the state, on the recent violent incident that claim the lives and properties of victims, and present the contributions of the bank to the state,” he said. “The incident, from all indication, has deeply shocked the country and the world at large. Responding, Ganduje expressed appreciation, adding that it would go a long way in assisting the victims. “On behalf of Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and the good people of state, we wish to thank you for this contribution which is demonstration of the bank’s concern over what has happened,” he said.

Shooting at Kaduna government house

Shooting at Kaduna government house
Director of Information shot while attempting to force his way into government house
A serving Director with the Kaduna state Ministry of Information was yesterday shot by security operatives attached to the Sir Kashim Ibrahim House seat of the Kaduna state government, thereby creating pandemonium in and around Kaduna metropolis and sending speculations that the Boko Haram Islamic sect had attacked the place.
The victim identified as Isuwa Kiboru who is said to be the Director of Finance in the Ministry was said to have been shot by the security operatives when he attempted to force his way into the Government House which serves both as residence and office of the governor.
Sources told The Nation gathered that Director had come to the government house requesting to see the governor and was told by the security men at the gate that the governor had travelled out of town to Abuja.
He was said to have reversed his car giving the impression that he wanted to leave, only to attempt forcing his way into the government house, forcing the security operatives at the gate to open fire on him.
The source said that was forced to a stop within the Government House after the car rear tires were deflated by bullets fired by the security operatives and was also hit both on his belly and leg when he came out of the car.
The shooting of Kiboro believed to be a pastor at the Living Faith Church in Kaduna caused pandemonium in the metropolis as news immediately went round that unknown gunmen believed to be members of the Boko Haram Islamic sect had attacked the government.
All roads leading to the government house were immediately condoned off by heavily armed security men.
Our source who is a senior government official told The Nation that the security men open fire on Kiboru when he refused to obey their order stopping from entering the Government House, saying “yes, he is a director in the ministry of information.
“But when the security people stopped him, he refused to stop and they opened fire on him. They don’t know who he is and what his mission was. You should realize that even staff of the government house go through this same security checks everyday.
“Even Commissioners are not left out of this security checks. You as Press people, you know that anytime you come to the government house, you pass through this same security check. So, no one can say why he refused to stop and so, they shot him on the leg and he was taken to the 44 Army Reference Hospital for treatment when he was identified as a staff of the state government”.
When contacted, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Reuben Buhari confirmed the incident, but said “my brother, we are in Abuja right now. But we heard what happened and I am on my way to Kaduna so that I will get the details of what happened.
“What we heard was that the man tried to force his way into the government house, refusing to stop when he was asked to stop. When we get the full briefing from the security people, I will get back to you”.
Officials of the 44 Army Reference Hospital located directly opposite the government refused Journalists access into the Hospital premises to speak with the victim.
Security in and around the Sir Kashim Ibrahim House seat of government in Kaduna had been tightened since the fuel subsidy strike when some youths attempted to gain access to the government house and all visitors to the government house, including state Commissioners, Permanent Secretaries and government appointees are subjected to serious security checks before being allowed into the government house.

50 Cent Loses Suit Against Nigerian Author Over Movie Title

A famed Nigerian author won a recent legal battle against 50 Cent to court over the title of his film “Things Fall Apart.”

It looks like things are falling apart rather quickly for 50 Cent’s upcoming football flick Things Fall Apart. After being sued for $200,000 for unpaid services on the film, the Queens rapper recently lost a major legal battle against famed Nigerian author Chinua Achebe over the movie’s title.
50 Cent was recently forced to change the name of his upcoming film Things Falls Apart over a copyright dispute involving the title. Upon learning of the film’s title, Chinua Achebe, who wrote the iconic 1958 novel of the same name, threatened to sue Fiddy and the film’s backers over a violation his celebrated book’s copyright.
50 and company attempted settle out of court with the African author’s foundation, offering them $1 million to use the title. Ultimately, the Chinua Achebe Foundation refused the offer, and the film’s producers persuaded the G-Unit general to change the title to All Things Fall Apart to avoid a more serious legal battle.
“The novel with the said title was initially produced in 1958 (that is 17 years before rapper 50 Cent was born), [is] listed as the mostly read book in modern African literature, and won’t be sold for even $1 billion,” Achebe’s legal representatives said.
All Things Fall Apart, which was written by Brian A. Miller and 50 Cent, follows the story of a college football player whose sports career is cut short by cancer. The film was directed by New Jack City maestro Mario Van Peebles and stars Peebles, Ray Liotta and 50 Cent in the lead role.

Justin Bieber shows off his ball control to Chelsea’s Frank Lampard and Fernando Torres (Video)

Being a teenage heartthrob obviously isn’t enough for Justin Bieber.

The Canadian sensation has sung duets with Mariah Carey and Kanye West and has had dance offs against Usher and P.Diddy.

Now he has shown off his silky balls to some of the world’s greatest living footballers.
The pint size pop star recently spent the day with Spanish international Fernando and England midfielder Frank at Chelsea’s home ground, Stamford Bridge.
The singer, whose worldwide hits include Baby, Baby, Never Say Never and One Time, found time to give the professionals a quick lesson in ball control.
The 17-year-old is a self confessed football fanatic, or as he calls it, soccer fan, and earlier this year he was sporting a Barcelona strip when he had a kick-around on the streets of Spain.
Bieber also got to take a penalty at the Shed End of the stadium with midfielder Lampard in goal.
Having already displayed what a natural athlete he is it was no surprise when Justin blasted the ball in past the out of position Chelsea legend.
He ended his day at the west London club with a VIP tour around the stadium and quick look in the changing rooms.
On this evidence, perhaps Russian owner Roman Abramovich should open his cheque book in January to sign the 17-year-old pop idol.

Wayne Rooney’s father arrested over ‘football betting scam’

Wayne Rooney’s father was today arrested in an investigation into a betting scandal in Scottish football.
Wayne Snr, 48, was arrested at his home in the West Derby area of Liverpool. The Manchester United and England striker’s uncle Richie, 54, was also arrested as a total of nine men.
United star Rooney is currently in Montenengro with the England team preparing for Friday’s crucial Euro 2012 qualifier.
The two men were among nine who were detained by police in Merseyside and Glasgow.
One of them was Motherwell midfielder Steve Jennings as the investigation into match-fixing of the match between Motherwell and Hearts last year ramps up.
Scottish Football Association chief executive Stewart Regan confirmed that Jennings was arrested at his home by Merseyside Police on Thursday.
Regan says the development comes after ‘extensive enquiries’ into alleged betting irregularities in the Scottish Premier League match between Motherwell and Hearts on December 14 last year.
Regan said: ‘While the investigation involves several other individuals outwith Scotland, it is important to stress that the evidence gathered throughout this thorough period of investigation has involved only one Scottish match.
‘Motherwell FC are aware of the situation and will issue a response in due course. The Scottish FA will make no further comment at this stage.’
Jennings, who is still with Motherwell, has been centre of attention since bookies spotted suspicious betting patterns surrounding the match, which was shown on live TV.
In the match at Fir Park – which hosts Motherwell lost 2-1 – Jennings was shown a straight red card after complaining about his side failing to be awarded a penalty in the dying stages.
On the day of the match, someone in Liverpool opened an account with Blue Square to register two £100 bets on a Motherwell player being sent off.
The same individual attempted to make further big bets but was halted by the company’s online security filter.
Merseyside Police said: ‘Detectives have today executed warrants at 10 addresses across Merseyside and Glasgow and arrested nine men as part of an investigation into suspicious betting activity.
‘The arrests are the culmination of a joint operation with the Gambling Commission and the nine who have been arrested for conspiracy to defraud are being interviewed by detectives.
‘Those arrested are a 29-year-old from Bootle, a 48-year-old from West Derby, a 54-year-old from Norris Green, a 26-year-old from Croxteth, a 22-year-old from Kirkdale, a 31-year-old from Litherland, a 68-year-old from Fazakerley, a 36-year-old from Kirkby and a 26-year-old from Glasgow.
‘The investigation relates to a match between Motherwell and Hearts on December 14 2010.’

Chelsea pay £2m for a Nigerian 14-year-old Oluwaseyi Ojo

Chelsea have agreed to pay a staggering £2million to make an MK Dons youth-team player the most expensive 14-year-old in football. Teenage sensation Oluwaseyi Ojo is viewed as one of the hottest prospects in English football, with Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester City all having tracked the youngster.
But Chelsea have won the race to sign the midfielder after making three offers for Ojo while he was playing for England Under 16s against Northern Ireland at Chesterfield on Wednesday.
The teenager was introduced as a half-time substitute and made an impact after two minutes, setting up Mason Bennett’s second as England secured a 3-1 win.
The impressive cameo sparked an incredible series of bids from Chelsea during the game.
Knowing that scouts from the country’s other top clubs were also at the game, they made three bids in 45 minutes.
MK Dons rejected the opening two offers before agreeing a package understood to be worth an initial £1.5million, plus another £500,000 in add-ons.
